What do you think of when you hear people talking about the unification of North and South Korea? This may seem impossible due to the fact we don¡¯t know much about North Korea. Or it maybe even viewed negatively because of how North Korea is viewed by the mass media as a ¡°Bad Country¡±. If one were to put a rock on a branch it would not break, but when it snows and that snow settles on a branch, it finally breaks. Soft always wins against strong. If we continue to make complaints about North Korea, we make more negativity.
The unification of these two nations to many seems so farfetched, but my speech today is on the benefits of North and South Korea uniting once more.
When Korea was unified the Koreans seem to have been the leaders in Asia. For example, Koreans had made huge countries like Koguryo and Balhae, which shows us that Korea had been a powerful nation when they were unified.
In the same way the united Korea made breakthroughs in history, I believe through sports, and technical skills Korea once again could become dominant in the international society.
As I support unification strongly, I decided to do my best at making my dream of becoming a sports announcer come true. This would allow me to bring harmony between North and South Korea. In sports, it doesn¡¯t matter about things such as where someone comes from. Sports move the world, and make people become one such as the Olympics, and the World Cup. These big events have big meaning, so if I engage in these types of events, I want to open a charity match to assist in the uniting process of these two nations. I would like to hold an international event in Pyeongyang, and if possible give proceeds to help North Korea¡¯s economy.
Secondly, with South Korea becoming a global force due to the English speaking abilities of its citizens, I would like to establish English speaking programs to help North Koreans. This would help us in the unification process because English has become a globalized language in which helps bring prosperity to countries who utilize it. This prosperity comes through creation of jobs abroad, and locally.
In conclusion, there¡¯s a story of a legendary pair of male and female birds each with one eye and one wing and always flying together. Since they have one eye and one wing, they cannot fly alone. The two of them depend on each other in order to fly. This is the perfect analogy of North and South Korea. The unification of these two nations to many seems so farfetched, but I believe in order for us to become dominant in the international society, unification must take place. Thank you for listening.
